Mallorca
After almost three years of pandemic and difficulties to travel this Easter trip was finally made. The destination was a dear place Port D'Alcudia in Mallorca. Both traveling it self, the destination and my thoughts on traveling have changed during these years. But still it was very nice and good. The picture above in the local specialty, Pa Amb Oli, toasted bread with garlic and tomato on top. The recipe will be available later.
Easter in Mallorca is a lot about bicycling. I'm not a cyclist my self but parts of the travelling company thinks this is the best way to enjoy the island.
Since everyone had been looking forward to the get away a lot of focus was on relaxing, enjoying the warm weather and the sun and the change in environment and flavors.
During this time adults had to be either vaccinated or take a PCR test. A health declaration had to be made online. It was still mandatory to use face masks on the plane, the airport and indoors at the destination. This was later changed.
A must is a visit to the market in Old Alcudia. The selection of items to buy and the crowd was the same. But I found the prices on fruit and vegetables higher than before.
Most of the meals was had at the hotel. Our hotel was situated between Port D'Alcudia and Playa del Muro. The food was okay. The buffet was apricated by the kids. Doughnuts and cake for breakfast and free ice cream at dinner was the best. I enjoyed the flan, the national dessert (picture below) was good. A few visits to local restaurants was made. A couple of recommendations are Don Vito, an Italian restaurant near the harbor. Very tasty pasta. A newly opened ice cream place is Del Gelato close to the hotel had the best ice cream
One of the days a visit to the wetland and National park s'Albufera was made. Hiking and bird watching was the plan. However there were not many exotic birds. Ducks and a turtle was spotted. A nice area to visit but nothing spectacular.
One of the days the weather was not suitable for the beach or the pool. We rented a car and visited the south east of the island. The caves in Porto Cristo were really cool. A large cave system with stalactites and also a lake at the bottom. A concert with classical music is included in the package. If you are lucky you can ride one of the boats on the lake. If you sit at the bottom to the left, facing the lake during the concert chances are better.
If all the stress and discomfort connected to Covid together with new views on illness is considered you can think about the value of traveling. Is it still worth it? I think so but I think I will travel less in the future.
