Gran Canarias

One of the travel destination I have visited the most is Gran Canarias. The weather is almost always perfectly warm and sunny. The island is beautiful and the food is great. Spanish tapas and Mediterranean food like fish and seafood is common. The small salty potatoes Papas arrugadas is typical for the Canaries. The red sauce mojo rojo and green roasted peppers  pimientos de padrón are other local dishes.

For my family this island is perfect. The travel distance from Sweden is acceptable and the selection of locations and hotels is so wide. I guess you can go here many times and never get bored. We have stayed in Maspalomas area a few times. The beach is fantastic although affordable hotels are some distance away from the beach. Most hotels have shuttle bus service so this is never a problem. In San Fernando there is a local market once a week, which is something I like. Shop for local souvenirs and fruit and local produce.

In the Maspalomas area there is also an amusement park. This is something at least my kids enjoy. Another event to enjoy in the area is camel riding. A large part of the area consist of the Dunas desert. A short drive or bus ride from Maspalomas is the Zoo Palmitos Park. Spend a day here watching all sorts of animals, birds and dolphins.

Once we stayed in the Bahia Feliz area. This is closer to the airport but the area is smaller and the selection of shops and restaurants is limited. The beach is close and nice.

Next trip to Gran Canarias will be to San Augustin. I'm really looking forward to this trip after more than one year without travelling.

Another nice day trip is Puerto de Mogán. We went by bus to Puerto Rico and then by boat to Puerto de Mogán. This beautiful village houses all these white villas and beautiful flowers. Stroll around the streets and visit the local market. Enjoy lunch in the harbor or a drink at some nice outdoor bar.
