If you enjoy good food, nice countryside and something different Estonia is a good destination. We went by ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn and by car to the first stop Pärnu. Pärnu is situated by the Riga Bay and has a fantastic sandy beach. We spent a few days here enjoying the beach and the city center with restaurants, shops and cafees.

From Pärnu we traveled over the islands Muhu, Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. You can use the small ferries between the islands. Start in Virtsu to go on the first ferry. We stayed a few nights on the largest island Saaremaa. In the main town Kuressaare the is an old castle worth visiting.

The castle is from the Medieval times and looks like something out of a fairytale. Explore the castle and enjoy some local produce - catch of the day (in the first picture). Grilled fish with new potatoes and sour cream. Almost all towns have a local market for food and flowers.

Back from the islands the road trip continued to Haapsalu. The town is an old bathing location with several spas. We stayed at the Mare Thalasso Spa. The spa is nice and kids are welcome. The hotel is however a bit dated and the food was not very fancy. The spa is situated next to a small beach and a short walk from the city center.

On the way back home we spent a few hours in Tallinn. I've been there before on a weekend trip and I really like this town. Old meets new, east meets west.

A short drive outside Haapsalu there is a train museum, or more like a train cemetery. Old and rusty trains are put together on a field. The museum building host information about the old Estonia. Interesting place but a bit peculiar.
