Caribbean cruise
During the one week in the summer of 2019 I went on the journey of my life. The best ever and probably since. To celebrate my 40th birthday me and the family went on a cruise in the Caribbean's. For some years we had dreamt about going on the worlds largest cruise ship - Harmony of the Seas. This was by the time not the largest in the world but close enough. The ship has everything you can think of: three water slides, the worlds tallest slide (in the picture), an ice rink, a robot bartender, a park (Central Park in the picture), an elevating bar (in the picture below) going between three floors, running track around the ship and 4 pools and 16 hot tubs. For a food lover this is also heaven with 12 restaurants.
We tried at least eight of the twelve restaurants on board. In the buffet restaurant Windjammer on floor 17 you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and have snack during the day. We eat most meals here since there is always something to chose for the kids and there was a different theme each day. One evening we tried Jamie's Italian signature by Jamie Oliver. Here you can eat pasta, sliders, Italian dishes and a great pavlova.
On my birthday we had dinner at Wonderland which is fine dining but in an Alice in Wonderland environment. The dishes are served in a surprising manner, for example a birds nest made of noodles with smoked eggs is served under a glass cup and when the cup is lifted smoke comes out and you feel like you are in a forest barbequing. The dessert looks like mushroom in the forest but it is marzipan.
The ship made three stops on our route. A small uninhabited island in the Bahamas - Coco Cay. The island is only used by cruise ships. It holds beaches, pools, restaurants, bars, a water park, an amusement park and other activities to do in the sun.
The other two stops was St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and St Marteen. A great way to see some of the Caribbean islands, hang out on the nice beaches and get into that Caribbean feeling. Between the stops and enjoying everything on the ship I sat on the balcony of our cabin and sipped some sparkling white wine.
