Bolzano

I love Italy. Over the years I've been to several parts of Italy. Every region is sort of it's own country. In July 2018 we spent a week in Bolzano/Bozen in the very north of Italy. The town is placed in the region Trentino-Alto Adige. Since the closeness to Germany and Austria the town is a nice mix of Italian and German. Bozen is the German name.

We rented an apartment in the town center. There are nice old buildings, some piazzas, modern cafes and shops. The town also house the over 5000 year old man Ötzi. Ötzi was discovered in the 90s when he melted out of a glacier. The museum about Ötzi is an interesting experience. There are also other museum, for example Museion, a modern art museum. This is placed just by the river. The bar at Museion is very contemporary and serves great drinks as well as free tapas.

Bolzano sits just in a valley in the Dolomites. A fun excursion is to take a lift up to one of the small mountain villages. Beware if you are afraid of heights.

In the village Soprabolzano is reached by the cable car Renon. In a hot day in the summer it could be nice to go up in the mountains to cool down. Have lunch or why not take an alpaca for a walk.

But the best things with Italy is the food, the food, the food and the wine and coffee. I remember a pasta which my daughter still classifies as the best pasta in her life. Finish off a great holiday day on the main Piazza with an Aperol Spritz.
